Candy Comedy began in late 2019 with a one-off stand-up show in Brisbane, where founder Jonny Winter, then an emerging comedian battling for stage time, decided it was time to create the opportunities he and so many others lacked. Driven by a passion for the craft and a desire to build a space where new voices could thrive, Jonny was ready to bring Candy Comedy to South East Queensland comedy fans… until the pandemic hit. What could have been the end instead became the spark that shaped the company’s resilience and purpose.
In 2020, despite restrictions still lingering, Candy Comedy made its mark with its first regular show at the Gold Coast’s Ground N Sound. That small but mighty stage became a home for comedians hungry to perform and audiences eager to laugh again. Word spread quickly, and what started as a single room with a simple goal evolved into a growing creative hub, one that championed fresh talent, fostered community, and reminded everyone how vital live comedy truly is.
Over the years that followed, Candy Comedy expanded across Queensland, showcasing hundreds of stand up comedians and entertaining tens of thousands of fans. With open mic nights, curated showcases, professional headline events, feature comedy shows, and even full scale comedy festivals, Candy Comedy has grown into the premier live comedy production company in Queensland. What began as Jonny Winter’s mission to carve out opportunities has become a thriving platform where comedians of all levels can shine, and where audiences can always count on unforgettable nights of laughter.
